Commack High School Varsity Cheerleaders
Caught the Commack cheerleaders at a competition at Northport on Saturday.
This was a late one. They were the second to last school on the schedule and, as luck would have it, the snow was coming down wet and thick coming and going.
I hadn’t photographed anything at Northport’s gym for a long while and I was happy to see they installed new LED tubes in the ceiling. Man, they were bright! This was great for photographing a cheerleading competition because the girls are a lot more spread out on the floor than they would be for a football game and it’s impossible to get them all in focus with the typical wide aperture required for low light. As it was, I was able to stop down to f/4 and still not go above ISO 8000. This was good enough for my 50mm lens to get them all acceptably sharp from front to back, which was definitely a gift compared with the light in most gyms.
