Commack High School Girls Varsity Tennis vs. Kings Park
Congratulations to the Commack girls tennis team on their win over Kings Park.
This year I had two choices for tennis photo backgrounds - the usual parking lot with highly reflective car chrome or the baseball field with a dirt pile, orange cones and football players with orange helmet covers. I chose the baseball field side. I knew I could get rid of most of the orange cones and helmet covers in post and I knew I couldn’t get rid of the cars and chrome.
Photographing tennis on Commack’s courts, especially in bright sun, is pretty tricky. You have a lot of contrast from the sunlight on the players and the dark backgrounds. There’s no way your camera can handle this dynamic range so you need to deal with it in post. It’s a lot of work but it makes for some cool looking photos. You need to dial in about a stop of negative exposure compensation to avoid blowing out the highlights. After that it’s all post-proecssing.
