Commack High School Boys Varsity Bowling
Caught the Commack boys bowling team at a practice at Bowlero Lanes yesterday.
Photographing bowling is usually a challenging endeavor. Most places are lit with all sorts of different colored lights. In Bowlero’s case they have white led’s over the approach, orange lamps over the seating area and UV lamps that accent the walls. Add to this the lights on the game machines in the background and you get photos that are not really color-correctable without a huge amount of work. You just have to go with the flow.
Also, you have to hope you have some empty lanes around the team’s lanes so you can move out to get some shots from the side. Unfortunately, on this day the lanes were full so I had to shoot from behind.
I’m using a 50mm prime lens for the individual shots and a 135mm for some of the group shots. My exposure is set to 1/1000 sec @ f/2 and ISO 12,800. Yeah, it’s darker than it looks.
Thanks very much to the nice folks at Bowlero Lanes for letting me take these photos. I should have the girls photos posted by tomorrow.
