Commack High School Girls Varsity Volleyball vs. Ward Melville - Suffolk Championship

Congratulations to the Commack girls volleyball team on winning the Suffolk County championship! Definitely an exciting match.

This match was held at Hauppauge High School. The gym has it’s pros and cons. On the plus side it’s quite large with plenty of room on the sides and ends of the court. The light intensity is about average, about the same as Commack’s. The downside is the tube lamps in the ceiling are all different color temperatures. It almost appears as if some are LED’s and some are fluorescent. Even the tints are different. You really need to adjust your white balance for each photo to get it right.

I shot this with a Sony a1. All the images of match play were taken with a 135mm prime. I switched to a 50mm prime at the end of the last set because I knew the team would rush the court as soon as they won and I needed the extra width to get them all in. Also there’s the usual media scramble to get the jube shots and trophy shots so you don’t want to be stuck with a long lens on the camera for those.
