Commack High School Girls Varsity Fencing vs. Centereach

Congratulations to the Commack girls fencing team on their win over Centereach.

For fencing photo galleries I try to get a shot of each fencer without their mask on before and after each bout. These are not meant to be works of art; they simply help to identify which fencers are in the photos once they have their masks on.

When I shoot fencing I’m sitting on the floor, well behind the ref, most of the time. I’m shooting with a 50mm prime at 1/1000 sec. @ f/2, auto-ISO. The 50mm is wide enough to keep both fencers in the frame and I can crop later in post. For the shots made from the end of the piste I’m using a 135mm prime with the same exposure. Both of these prime lenses let me use a wider aperture than a zoom lens and they both have extremely fast autofocus.
